MARCH KEY POINTS
CURRENT PRICES
- The trend estimate remained unchanged in March 2010. This follows an unchanged estimate in February 2010 and a 0.1% increase in January 2010.
- The seasonally adjusted estimate increased 0.3% in March 2010. This follows a 1.2% decrease in February 2010 and a 0.9% increase in January 2010.
- In original terms, Australian turnover increased 11.8% in March 2010. Australian turnover increased 2.9% in March 2010 compared with March 2009.
- The following industries increased in trend terms in March 2010: Cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services (0.4%), Other retailing (0.3%), Department stores (0.3%). Household goods retailing (-0.3%), Clothing, footwear and personal accessory retailing (-0.2%) and Food retailing (-0.1%) decreased in March 2010.
- The following states and territories increased in trend terms in March 2010: the Northern Territory (0.6%), Western Australia (0.5%), the Australian Capital Territory (0.4%), Victoria (0.1%) and South Australia (0.1%). New South Wales (-0.2%), Queensland (-0.1%) and Tasmania (-0.1%) all decreased in March 2010.
VOLUME MEASURES
- The trend estimate of turnover for the Australian Retail series increased 0.6% in the March quarter 2010 in volume terms.
